Godzilla, the fictional “King of the Monsters”, may have originated in Japan, but its awesomeness has reached Hollywood in recent years.

Godzilla inspired many great filmmakers, from Tim Burton to Martin Scorsese, and even Steven Spielberg, who admits Godzilla inspired his classic films “Jurassic Park” and “Jaws.”

It’s no surprise that kids LOVE Godzilla. He even has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – he’s that famous!

11. Godzilla vs King Kong

Godzilla has a complicated relationship with King Kong. In one of the earlier movies, he fought the massive gorilla for the title of King of the Monsters.

In another movie, Godzilla teams up with King Kong so they could beat their common enemy, Mechagodzilla.

You’ll find many realistic depictions of Godzilla vs. King Kong, but this picture below (left) is my favorite. I found it on Pinterest.

12. Godzilla vs Ghidora

King Ghidora is one of Godzilla’s opponents. As seen on the picture above (right), Ghidora is a three-headed monster.

13. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla

Mechagodzilla is another one of Godzilla’s archenemy.

Mechagodzilla was first depicted as an alien villain that confronted Godzilla. In later films, this mecha monster became a man-made weapon designed to defend Japan from Godzilla.

14. Godzilla vs. Gigan

Awesomely drawn by Frederik Hornung, this scenario depicts Godzilla fighting the space monster slash reptile known as Gigan.

This monster is considered Godzilla’s most violent opponent and is first seen in the 1972 film Godzilla vs. Gigan.

15. Godzilla vs Hedorah

In the 1971 film, Godzilla fights a living monstrous sludge named Hedorah.

Godzilla beat Hedorah by drying him out. But Godzilla was left with only one eye and a burnt right hand after the fight.

16. Godzilla vs Biollante

Biollante is a rose, human and dinosaur hybrid kaiju. This monster is a genetically-engineered clone of Godzilla and first appeared in Toho’s 1989 film Godzilla vs. Biollante.

17. Godzilla vs Mothra

Mothra is a fictional monster, or kaiju, that first appeared in the 1961 film Mothra. This moth-looking character appeared in many Toho films, many of which in the Godzilla franchise.

The photo above, drawn by Washington-based illustrator S.I. Gallant, depicts the unique relationship between Godzilla and Mothra.

18. Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla

SpaceGodzilla is another Godzilla clone kaiju, which appeared as Godzilla’s antagonist in the 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla.

As you can see from Amwuensch‘s drawing, SpaceGodzilla looks very similar to Godzilla, except that it has navy blue skin and purply/red skin on his tummy. He has two massive white crystals that erupt from his shoulders with a tail that look encrusted in crystal-like spikes.

19. Godzilla vs Destoroyah

In the 1995 film, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, the audience is introduced to Destoroyah, an Oxygen Destroyer-borne adversary who faces a dying Godzilla.

Destoroyah is the only one of Godzilla’s enemies who didn’t get a rematch in future films.
