Who wouldn’t?
They’re free for the taking, and they were placed there for you to give a whiff.
Perfumes can be pretty expensive. This is because most of its contents are concentrated essential oils made from rare flowers, roots, or trees that are difficult to obtain.
The brand name contributes to some of the cost, admittedly, but mostly it’s the ingredients and the expertise of fragrance chemists that contribute to the cost.
Personally, when I find a fragrance I like, I’m fiercely loyal.
I’m talking years of wearing it.
And I want to be 100% sure I love the scent before I commit to buying a bottle.
If this sounds like you, this guide to getting free perfume samples is for you.
I’ve rounded up 25 places where you can get free perfume samples either by a minimum purchase, by buying a specific product, or by simply leaving your email address, plus several bonus ideas worth trying.
25 Places to Get Free Perfume Samples
One of the easiest ways to get free samples is to become a brand ambassador. Sites like Toluna and Survey Junkie pay you cash to work directly with some of the biggest companies in the industry to help improve their product lines.
1. Jo Malone
Setting personal biases aside, but I must say that Jo Malone offers the best fragrances out there.
And when I learned about their current offer, I can’t help but share it with all of you.
Keep an eye on the page above as they give out some pretty crazy samples from time to time.
Note that Jo Malone sometimes require purchase with the free perfume samples.
2. Hermes
Although requesting perfume samples from giant brands may seem like a waste of your time and effort, as they say, there’s no harm in trying.
As with Hermes, it is actually written on their website how you may receive a sample from their fragrance.
In the FAQ section, Hermes instructed those who wish to receive fragrance samples to fill out their contact form and leave there your complete mailing address.
Of course, this is subject to availability.
If you’re near a Hermes store, you can just inquire from one of the sales associates, who could present you with several fragrance testers.
If you’re lucky and sample sizes are available, you may even take home a sample or two without buying one.
3. Dior
Dior is an iconic luxury brand with a popular fragrance collection, and they’re generous with their samples (as long as you buy something).
It's a giant box of free samples and it comes right to your door at no cost.
Order anything from their online store and you get 2 free samples from a wide selection of iconic house products, including free perfume samples, without a minimum purchase required.
If your order exceeds $100, you get a complimentary travel-size set of fragrances.
4. Harvey Prince
Simply add the free perfume sample to your shopping cart, proceed to checkout and enter the code “harveyprincesample.”
You do need to pay shipping cost and you can’t combine this with any other promotion.
5. Wanderer Eau de Parfum
Currently, Wanderer Eau de Parfum doesn’t offer free samples.
However, if you already know the brand and plan to buy, do it online because they include a FREE Distillery Series tester card with every purchase.
These samples don’t require any code.
Just shop (without a minimum order) and you automatically qualify to get a tester of Wanderer Eau de Parfum’s bestselling Distillery Series collection of colognes.
6. Diptyque
Diptyque is known for its candles, but they have an excellent fragrance selection, too.
Buy from their online store and you can get two free samples for every order, which is usually an Eau de Toilette or an Eau de Parfum.
They also give you a sample-sized bottle for every full-sized bottle of fragrance. This seems counterintuitive, but hear me out.
Diptyque accepts unopened returns within 28 days of original purchase, and you’re not required to return the sample.
So in theory, as long as you’re within the return window, you can buy a full-sized bottle once, return it, get another one, and so on until you collect samples of all the fragrances or you find one that you’re in love with and decide you want to keep it.
Check out their exclusive offers to find out new offers on their site.
7. Ulta Beauty
Ulta Beauty is like an online mall for everything beauty related.
Expect to see brands like Valentino, Clinique, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren.
Sometimes, these brands offer free perfume samples via Ulta Beauty but only with purchase.
Ulta rarely gives away perfume samples that are totally free.
8. Sephora
As of writing, you can get 2 fragrance samples from shopping on their site with a minimum purchase.
The amount depends on the brand and size of the bottle sampler.
Sephora releases new deals and samples every week.
So, I suggest that you check them out from time to time if you are constantly hunting for great offers and free perfume samples from big brands.
But just to give you a heads up, most of the time, their codes and free samples are for beauty and skincare products.
9. Nordstrom
Free samples are almost always available upon checkout if you shop on Nordstrom, without a minimum purchase.
And that’s not all – they also have items that are labeled as “Gift With Purchase,” which means that if you buy a specific product, there is a corresponding gift for that.
Here are some examples:
- Receive deluxe samples of Miss Dior Eau de Parfum (0.17 oz.) with your $165 DIOR women’s fragrance purchase. Online only.

You can see all the available “Gift With Purchase” items by clicking here. Sometimes, additional free samples are made available only upon checkout.
I know the text is small, but pay attention to details. Some of the free perfume samples are only available when you buy online, or require a minimum purchase amount to qualify.
What I like best about checking free perfume samples on Nordstrom is that they carry multiple brands.
10. Neiman Marcus
Just like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus also has Gifts With Purchase or products that will give you a gift from the same brand if you purchase a specific item from the site.
Some of the participating brands at Neiman Marcus’s Gifts With Purchase are Frederic Malle and Acqua di Parma.
11. Macy’s
Like the above stores, Macy’s offers a free gift with purchase, which often includes free perfume samples.
If you’re willing to spend some money for perfume samples, though, they offer sampler sets or discovery sets that usually contain scents from a single brand.
The downside to these sets is that they can be a mishmash of scents.
Meaning, the sets contain scents for both men and women and from different brands.
12. Reddit
Reddit has a corner in the community called Fragrance Swap, formerly named Perfume Exchange.
Many of the perfumes listed here are for sale, some of which are untouched (new in box) and others used up to 20% of the bottle’s content at discounted prices.
Some free samples are posted here as well.
13. Fragrance Subscription Boxes
Have you joined beauty boxes (like Walmart Beauty Box) that mail you their awesome products each month?
Did you know that there is such a thing as fragrance-only subscription boxes?
Go with either Scentbox or Scentbird.
Both programs have the same concept: they deliver a carefully-selected set of on-trend perfumes with free samples and other freebies.
Subscription fragrance programs encourage you to order full-sized versions on your next order.
Other Ways to Find Free Perfume Samples
There are a lot of other websites that are dedicated to sharing deals, coupons, and free samples with their visitors.
And there are also review sites that are giving away free trials or samples in exchange for a review.
Below are several unique ways you can find perfume freebies and samples:
14. Hunt on Social Media with Hashtags
The online space is pretty massive.
Learning how to use hashtags on social media can lead to a lot of freebies you normally wouldn’t have known.
Focus on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, where companies often announce contests and promotions.
If they’re offering exclusive deals and coupons (or if you’re lucky free fragrance samples without purchase or any other catch), then the hunt will be all worth it.
Follow your favorite perfume brands on their respective social media accounts and watch out for these deals.
You can try bigger brands like The Body Shop, L’Oreal, Le Labo, and Lancome, or find smaller brands like Skylar, or Juliette Has a Gun.
15. PINCHme
The moment you visit this site, you will automatically see their message to all their visitors, “We send you free samples. You tell us what you think.”
Sign up to start getting your free samples of different products, including perfumes.
16. SampleSource
SamplesSource wants to give its visitors a chance to test products so they can make smarter shopping decisions.
To start claiming your free samples of perfumes, makeup, beauty care, household cleaning, food, and more, simply click here.
17. FreeFlys
FreeFlys is one of the largest sites where you can find free samples of almost every product imaginable, and they constantly update their content with the latest free stuff, coupons, and deals out there.
A couple of the free perfume samples that are available on this site right now is from Estée Lauder and Valentino.
And they have more free perfume samples that you can choose from here.
18. FreeSamplesByMail
This site makes it easier for you to find the latest available free perfume sample because they have dedicated a page solely for perfume samples.
Check the page here and simply click the “Get Free” button to claim your free sample.
19. Hunt Inside Women’s and Fashion Magazines
If you’re subscribed to fashion and women’s magazines, you’ll know that the old-school perfume samples stuck to pages of magazines still exist.
Popular mags like Elle, Vogue, Cosmo, and Marie Claire usually have perfume samples, but you’ll never really be sure that there will be a tester included in a particular issue.
The cool thing about this is you can also get free magazine subscriptions, so you wouldn’t be spending a cent hunting for perfume samples in magazines.
20. Visit Your Local Department Stores and Ask for Free Perfume Samples
Department stores are the best place for testers and samples, whether you’re shopping for cosmetics, fragrances, lotions, and other beauty and skincare products.
These stores know that people are more likely to purchase something if they’re able to test them first. This is especially true for perfumes because they’re super expensive.
You don’t see perfume vials displayed at department stores, but trust me, they’re hiding in plain sight. Just ask the salespeople manning perfume cubicles very nicely for some samples. You’d be surprised just how much you’d be able to take home.
Bloomingdales, Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and other higher-end stores are known to let customers take home their own samples as long as they come with their own glass vials.
If you’re lucky, you may even be given a small tester bottle of perfume to take home and sample. This is rare, but it does happen.
On the other hand, don’t be offended when you are told “no” when asking around for perfume samples. It may be house rules and totally beyond the control of the salespeople you’re talking to.
21. Fragrance Swap Groups
For those who have collected a bunch of perfume vials, but want to explore some more, you might be interested in checking out sample swaps.
Swapping samples can be a fun activity if you join the right group. With perfume exchanges, you can meet up with other perfume fans to sell or swap some of the samples in your collection.
Because the perfume swapped is often second-hand, be prepared to get the short end of the deal—sometimes the item sent to you could be an old bottle of perfume, or almost empty.
The idea here is to be able to sample as many fragrances as you can, so you could pick which ones you like.
22. Join Fragrance Testing Panels
Companies conduct market research all the time. Many of them go through third-party consumer testing panels to handle this for them. Awesome examples of this include:
Some companies have in-house testing panels, such as L’Oreal USA.
Make sure to join multiple testing panels to increase your chance of receiving perfume samples.
23. Follow Fragrance Bloggers
Fragrance companies collaborate with beauty and fragrance bloggers.
And if there are new fragrances and promotions, these fragrance companies have the best target audience – the followers of these blogs.
To join promos, contests, and other deals, make sure to follow these blogs:
- Now Smell This perfume (NST blog)
- The Perfume Society
- CaFleureBon Perfume Blog
- Basenotes
- ParfumPlus Magazine
- Perfume Posse
24. Request from Brands Directly (and Sign up on their Newsletters)
Visit the websites of your favorite perfume brands, such as Burberry, Dolce& Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Hermes, and more.
You have two chances of getting free perfume samples directly from the companies:
- Sign up for their newsletters (so you can receive info on new scents and current promotions)
- Send a sample request (email the brand and request for samples directly)
There is no guarantee that you’ll receive freebies this way, but there’s nothing to lose if you try.
25. Start a Beauty or Perfume Blog
This is a long-term plan and requires a huge commitment, but if you’re really passionate about beauty brands and fragrances, and have a knack for writing, you could start your own blog.
It would take months or years for your blog to get some buzz, but as it gets more readers, beauty brands would also list you as potential collaborator.
Other Beauty Freebies beyond Free Perfume Samples
Free perfume samples still exist, but if you’re willing to pay or take advantage of discounted opened perfume bottles, it’s nice to know there are options available, right?
Check this post if you’re looking for free men’s cologne.
